We can not recommend or advise purchasing a Madagascar Lace plant without dirt as your lower substrate. This plant needs lots of nutrients readily available at its roots, so extra precautions should be taken to make this happen. Once established in a tank with a great substrate, the Madagascar Lace Plant will thrive. I have had this plant for over 2 years now and it has taken over 1\/2 of my 75 gallon tank. In favorable conditions it can form very large leaves (up to 30\" long and 3\" wide).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe oldest leaves are deep dark-green, while younger leaves are light-green and sometimes brownish until they are fully developed. In the wild \u003cem\u003eAponogeton boivinianus\u003c\/em\u003e is found in fast-flowing water, and it prefers some flow in the aquarium water. It needs a dormant period when the bulb does not produce leaves. This plant is similar to a \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/dustinsfishtanks.mom\/products\/foxtail\" title=\"Foxtail\"\u003eFoxtail \u003c\/a\u003eor other kinds of Myrio.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI like the leaf pattern on this plant more than others. If you look closely it has a unique woven look to its leaves. We are currently keeping this plant in one of our higher light tanks and it is doing well. This Myriophyllum tuberculatum can handle lower light but won't give you the nicer reddish colors and would be more of a darker brown. It makes a great contrast to any planted aquarium.
